CD-Action Expo: Magazine’s 30th Anniversary
Some weekends remind you why you got into game development in the first place, and this was one of them. We joined developers, journalists, and passionate players to celebrate the CD-Action Expo, one of the oldest and most beloved video game magazines still in print anywhere in the world.
What Is CD-Action, and Why Does Its 30th Birthday Matter?
If you’ve grown up around Polish gaming culture, CD-Action needs no introduction. Founded in the mid-1990s, it has been a constant companion through three decades of gaming history.
What makes it remarkable isn’t just longevity. It’s that CD-Action remains in print at a time when most of its peers have disappeared or gone fully digital. For many players, it represents a tangible, trusted relationship with gaming that no algorithm-driven feed can replicate.
The anniversary celebration brought this legacy to life across two packed days: new releases, retro gaming corners, discussion panels, indie spotlights, family activities, and over 80 panels and meetings with well-known guests.
Our Team Took the Stage: Two Perspectives on Making Games
We were proud to have two of our own among the speakers. Each brought a different angle on the realities of game development, a candid, experience-backed honesty that you rarely get in polished conference talks.
On Saturday, Marcin Warszawski shared his experiences as a producer: the decisions, trade-offs, and lessons that never make it into the daylight but shape every project from the very beginning.
On Sunday, Kamil Judasz explored a question: why do seemingly promising, up-and-coming titles fail? A talk about something every developer quietly worries about.
These aren’t theoretical discussions. They’re hard-won perspectives drawn from real development cycles, failures, and successes.
What the Weekend Looked Like
Beyond our own involvement, the event itself was a proof of how much gaming culture means to people of all ages. Atendees could enjoy video games, board games, retro gaming, upcoming indie titles, discussion panels, guest lectures, meetups, and dedicated activities for kids and families. A lot has happened over these two-day celebrations.
Why Events Like This Still Matter
In an era of remote work, digital communities, and asynchronous communication, there’s a real risk that the shared, physical experience of games culture gets hollowed out. Events like the CD-Action Expo are keeping the community closer together.
We are happy our team could join the celebrations, share knowledge, and have fun this weekend. We are already looking forward to the future events.
